Comfortable Tooth Extractions for Your Oral Health
What are Tooth Extractions?
Tooth extractions are performed to maintain your oral health by removing problematic teeth. You might require an extraction due to advanced gum disease or an impacted wisdom tooth, among other reasons. At our office, we ensure that all extractions are carried out safely and comfortably, tailored to your convenience.
What happens during a Tooth Extraction?
Initially, we will administer anesthetic or sedation based on your preference. We can review our sedation options during your consultation to ensure your comfort. Once you are at ease, we will gently loosen and extract the tooth. If necessary, we may place sutures to help close the gums. You will bite down on gauze to manage any bleeding. If sedation has been used, you’ll be taken to a recovery room to fully regain consciousness. It’s important to have a friend or family member accompany you home if general sedation was utilized. We will also provide essential aftercare instructions that you should follow for optimal recovery.
Why are Tooth Extractions needed?
Tooth extractions are typically carried out when saving a tooth is not feasible. Certain teeth can pose a risk to your oral health, making it wise to remove them before they lead to problems such as shifting, infections, or damage within the mouth. Some common reasons for needing an extraction include:
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Loose or heavily decayed teeth
- Teeth that are cracked or broken beneath the gum line
- Retained baby teeth that won't come out
- A desire to prevent further treatments
Who is a candidate for Tooth Extractions?
Through a thorough examination, we can assess whether you require a tooth extraction. The majority of patients who need this procedure can safely undergo it. Retaining a problematic tooth may lead to complications such as infections or abscesses in the future. To assist in evaluating the necessity of an extraction, we will take X-rays for a clearer view of your dental situation.
